I had a USB mouse for years, but a couple of years ago, apparently it started to flake out.  I was never really sure if it was the cable or if it was the USB port that was giving me the trouble.  A couple of months ago, it got progressively worse; just touching the cord would disconnect the mouse, and after that point, the mouse didn’t work more often than it did.

Oh, and I absolutely despise trackpads.  I mean, I get flames-shooting-from-my-eyes pissed whenever I am forced to use it.  I find the trackpad awkward to use (try selecting text using a trackpad: you need three hands), and simply frustrating when typing (it sits right where I rest my hands when I type).

Since I believed that it was the USB port that was causing me trouble, I suspected that I had to either take my laptop apart to fix it or get a new laptop (which I can’t afford right now).

So, a week ago, the old mouse stopped working altogether.  I threw it across my apartment in frustration.  I tried plugging other things into the port to see if it was the port that wasn’t working, or if it was the mouse.  In retrospect, it should have been obvious to me that it had to be the cable: everything else I plugged into that USB port worked perfectly fine, such as my webcam and my iPhone.

So, I went onto the internet and got a Bluetooth dongle and a Bluetooth wireless mouse.  It arrived this afternoon.  It took me ten to fifteen minutes to set it up.

Now I have a mouse again, and all is right with the world.

You can get my set-up by following these links (I don’t make any money from these links):
